Aerial Archaeology

In 1922, the former RAF (Royal Air Force) pilot O.G.S. Crawford pioneered a new method to undertake archaeological survey by photographing from the sky. He discovered the systematic layout of the fields in prehistoric times and Roman-Britain times from the aerial photographs, thereby proved the method of discovering ancient ruins from the marks on the ground surface and the features of the crops. Now, aerial archeology has become an indispensable technology in the industry. It can be either used on investigation of ruins over a large area and ancient cities or buildings in the desert, or be used on identification of historical remains buried underground from geometric figures indicated on the ground surface.

However, for the archaeological industry of tight budget, it is uneconomic and inflexible to rent manned helicopters. Now, with the MD4 series VTOL-AUMAV System that is easy to operate, any archaeological team shall have the chance to use the most advanced technology on aerial archeology in a most favorable way. The md4 series VTOL-AUMAV System can hover stably at any altitude in the sky, and stably take aerial photograph at any angle which requested to be high-resolution and covers the whole scene.

Through these aerial photographs of wide view, you will find phenomenon which is indistinguishable in ground investigation, such as imperceptible difference of soil and topography, contrast of growth state of plants in different seasons, and the shadow the ground ruins showed in morning or evening etc. Analysis and contrast on differences between various phenomena will probably help you to find the remains and relics buried underground.

Meanwhile it can accurately and detailedly keep track of situation of the archaeological site of every stage of the whole excavation process. The aerial photographs can be used on producing three-dimensional images. It can also help the archeologists on analyzing and restituting the truth that is drowned by the history.
